In 1982, Porsche introduced the 944, marking a significant advancement over its predecessor, the 924. Despite a slightly poorer drag coefficient, the 944 boasted enhanced speed, improved equipment, and refined features. It excelled in handling, braking power, and driving comfort. With its rear transaxle balancing the engine in the front, the car achieved nearly equal front-to-rear weight distribution at 50.7% front and 49.3% rear. Notably, North American models were modified to comply with regulations, featuring larger bumpers and a larger rubber portion on the front bumper in place of auxiliary lights.
