The 356 B (T5 body type) was introduced in late 1959, featuring significant stylistic and technical enhancements. By mid-1962, the 356 B underwent further changes, adopting the T6 body type. These updates included twin grilles on the engine compartment cover, an external fuel filler in the right front wing/fender, and a larger rear window in the coupé variant. Initially, Porsche did not explicitly highlight these visible alterations, keeping the same model designation. However, when the T6 model received disc brakes without other noticeable modifications, it was designated as the model C. If equipped with the optional, more powerful engine, it was referred to as the SC.
