Type 2 Lotação/Netherland Bus

The Lotação VW Bus:
Known as the “Perua de Lotação” or “Combi Lotação,” these variants of the T2 played a significant role in public transportation in Brazil. The term “Lotação” comes from the Portuguese word “lotar,” which means to fill up or load. These vehicles were essentially private minibusses or microbuses operated by individuals who would pick up passengers along designated routes. It was a cost-effective and efficient way for people to commute within the city, especially in areas where traditional public transportation options were limited. The Lotação VW Bus featured a slightly modified interior to accommodate more passengers. Instead of the traditional seating layout found in other VW Bus variants, Lotação vehicles were often fitted with long bench-style seats along both sides of the interior to maximize passenger capacity.

Taxi Vehicles! This one above is retired from The Netherlands where it was operational back in 1998! Guess Brazil wasn’t the only one who figured the Type 2 would be perfect for the job.

Though this wasn’t operated in Brazil, definitely gives you the idea of how it was operated as a mass passenger vehicle.
