AMG Upgrade!
Founded in 1967 by former Mercedes engineers Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher, AMG, originally an independent tuning company specializing in Mercedes-Benz vehicles, the partnership started in the late 1980s when the two companies joined forces to collaborate on the development of high-performance vehicles.
The first fruit of this collaboration was the iconic Mercedes-Benz 300E 5.6 AMG also known as the “Red Pig,” introduced in 1986. Featuring a hand-built 5.6-liter V8 engine producing 360 horsepower. As the partnership continued to grow stronger, so too did the breadth and scope of their collaboration. In 1999, the company acquired a controlling interest in AMG, bringing the two brands even closer together and laying the groundwork for future success.
The storied successes of Mercedes-Benz on the automotive landscape as well as the motorsport sector becomes abundantly clear: this is a company that has never been content to rest on its laurels. From pioneering as the luxury performance vehicle brand, to pushing the literal definitions of power in collaboration with AMG performance and capitalizing on renowned success in the motorsports scene. The juggernaut company has remained steadfast in its commitment to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible, ensuring that the spirit of innovation and ingenuity that defines the brand will continue to drive it forward for generations to come.
