While Porsche has been chasing wins around the world with its highly successful Porsche 911 GT3 R during the 2025 season, its successor has been putting the pedal to the metal alongside it. This weekend, the development program for Porsche’s new customer racing model will enter the next phase under competitive conditions. In collaboration with Herberth Motorsport, the test outing is scheduled for April 19 and 20 at Belgium’s legendary Spa-Francorchamps circuit.

The Creventic 24H Series will host a split-format endurance race titled the “Michelin 12H Spa-Francorchamps” this Saturday and Sunday. The event will begin with practice sessions, testing, and qualifying, leading into the first five hours of the race. The remaining seven hours will take place the following day to conclude the event. The No. 91 test car – the updated Porsche 911 GT3 R – will be driven by former Porsche Junior and reigning IMSA GTD Pro Champion Laurin Heinrich of Germany, alongside endurance racing veterans Ralf Bohn and Alfred Renauer.
Sebastian Golz, Project Manager for the Porsche 911 GT3 R, stated, “The Creventic Series offers the ideal environment for such an important test. The competition features numerous privateer teams racing at a high level, there’s ample track time, and the Spa-Francorchamps circuit presents a formidable challenge for both drivers and machines.” He added, “As a long-time Porsche customer team, Herberth Motorsport can provide valuable feedback on vehicle handling, serviceability, ergonomics, and operational functions. We’re also eager to hear the drivers’ impressions.”

The No. 91 test car builds on the current, highly successful Porsche 911 GT3 R and will be officially unveiled this summer. Porsche engineers have focused on enhancing drivability, refining aerodynamic components, and improving front-end behavior under braking and acceleration for the 2026 racing season. In addition, software updates and a redesigned steering system developed by Porsche’s engineering team in Weissach have been implemented, though further technical details will be released at a later date.

This successor follows in the footsteps of a proven winner. The current Porsche 911 GT3 R has secured victories in the LMGT3 class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, claimed the FIA Endurance Trophy in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), swept all GTD Pro titles in the North American IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, won Porsche’s first-ever DTM title, and delivered the manufacturers’ championship in the Intercontinental GT Challenge.
Most recently, customer team AO Racing took class victory in the GTD Pro category at the 12 Hours of Sebring in the United States.
