The time has come for Toyota and Lexus to unveil the spiritual successor to both the Toyota 2000GT and the LFA. Thanks to an advertisement that aired in Japan, we now have a reveal date and the name for this new beast.

Unlike the Toyota 2000GT and the Lexus LFA, this new model will not be badged as a Toyota or a Lexus, but rather as a standalone model from Gazoo Racing, the Toyota/Lexus branch brand that focuses on performance and racing. In the video, you can see a Toyota 2000GT being overtaken by the Lexus LFA, and then the LFA is overtaken by the new halo car, the GR GT. You also get to hear the sweet engine notes of all three vehicles as they push along the track. The reveal date is set for December 5th, with a proper debut likely to come at the 2026 Tokyo Auto Salon.

The name of the new model has been known for about a year now after it was discovered that Toyota trademarked the GR GT name as well as a stylized GR GT logo. This is the first time Toyota has shown a non-camouflaged production version of the car, albeit hidden mostly in shadow. Still, some details can be made out, especially from the last two close-ups in the video. You get a clear look at the headlight and taillight signatures, as well as the overall long shape of the hood featuring several vents, and the wide rear end of the car that also includes small vents similar to those of the LFA. No powertrain has been confirmed yet, but given the long hood, the predecessor’s engine type, and the fact that Toyota’s powertrain chief Takashi Uehara confirmed plans for a new V8 during last month’s Japan Mobility Show, it’s likely to be that V8—and it’s expected to be paired with a hybrid system.

Lexus is also likely to get its own, more luxury-oriented version of the GR GT. Similar to how the GR GT name was discovered, Toyota has also filed a trademark for the name “LFR.” On top of that, Lexus unveiled a concept at the 2025 Monterey Car Week that appears to have similar proportions and design elements to the GR GT seen in the video—for example, the vents over the rear wheels. More info and a much better look at the production car are only two days away, and we can’t wait.
