The 991 was introduced in 2011 and was a significant departure from the previous generations. The 991 was powered by a 3.4-liter flat-six engine, producing 350 horsepower and 287 lb-ft of torque. The car was available with a seven-speed manual or a seven-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The 991 generation also saw the introduction of the Carrera S model, featuring a larger 3.8-liter flat-six engine, producing 400 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque. The car was also available with all-wheel drive, making it a favorite among enthusiasts who wanted the added traction and performance.
