In 1986, the Supra was given a major update, and it became a standalone model. The styling was updated to be more aerodynamic, and the engine was upgraded to produce 200 horsepower and 196 lb-ft of torque. This was thanks to the introduction of the 7M-GTE engine, which featured a turbocharger and intercooler.
