The Autobot Mirage, known for its role in “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts,” will be showcased alongside iconic cars at Rennsport Reunion 7. In the film, Mirage takes on the form of a classic Porsche 911 Carrera RS 3.8 (964), for epic battles with the Transformers.
Rennsport Reunion 7 is a prestigious event in Monterey, scheduled for September, where Porsche enthusiasts come together to celebrate the brand’s history. Mirage, despite being a film hero, is a unique automotive piece – a replica of the rare Porsche Carrera RS 3.8, of which only 55 units were ever made. While no original models were used in the movie to avoid damage, the filmmakers meticulously recreated the sound of the Porsche 911 RS 3.8 engine for authenticity, drawing from a real 911 RS 3.8 recording. This attention to detail showcases the dedication of the film’s creators and resonates with audiences.
At the event, the Porsche 911 Carrera RS 3.8, Mirage’s hero car, will be a highlight, thanks to the Porsche Classic team’s effort in preserving this significant piece of Porsche history. The 911 Carrera RS 3.8 (964) is an exceptionally rare and legendary Porsche, with only 55 ever produced, making it a prized collector’s item for car enthusiasts. To safeguard these valuable classics, none of the original 911 Carrera RS 3.8s were used in the filming of “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.” Instead, a team of filmmakers meticulously crafted five replica picture cars, each tailored for specific on-screen roles.
These purpose-built picture cars included a high-speed reverse car for thrilling maneuvers, a stunt car for heart-pounding action sequences, and a driver-controlled car with external controls to capture precise driving scenes. Remarkably, the authentic engine sound of the 911 Carrera RS 3.8 was faithfully recreated by recording the roar of a real Air-Cooled flat six 911 RS 3.8 engine. This dedication to detail showcases the filmmakers’ commitment to both preserving Porsche history and delivering an immersive cinematic experience that resonates with audiences worldwide.
