The year 1991 marked the unveiling of the esteemed 2JZ engine series, solidifying Toyota’s reputation for producing powerhouses. Rivaling competition from other car manufacturers who were gaining popularity using the inline six application, Toyota and their 2JZ variants came to play and evened the playing field across the board.

With this 3.0-liter inline-six configuration, Toyota ushered in a new era of performance. Twin-turbocharged and offering a baseline power output ranging from 260 to 276 horsepower, along with torque ranging on the higher end of 430 lb-ft, the 2JZ-GTE quickly became an icon. Its presence in the Toyota Supra was a defining moment, encapsulating the engine’s bulletproof internals, robust block, and incredible tuning potential.

The naturally aspirated 2JZ-GE, also boasting a 3.0-liter inline-six configuration, catered to enthusiasts seeking the elegant simplicity of naturally aspirated power. With horsepower ranging from 220 to 230 and torque from 210 to 220 lb-ft, the 2JZ-GE delivered a linear power delivery that showcased Toyota’s commitment to precision and performance. Understandably the need to increase power and be the best inline six crafted a large and still dominant aftermarket scene. 2JZ’s both NA and Turbocharged engines push boundary on what is possible in raw power.

2JZ-FSE

Much like its sibling (1JZ-FSE), the 2JZ-FSE is an eco-friendly iteration of the 2JZ engine series. Featuring direct injection technology, it strikes a balance between performance and environmental responsibility. With an output of around 217 horsepower, the 2JZ-FSE demonstrates that large-displacement engines can prioritize efficiency without sacrificing power. Found in models like the Toyota Crown and Mark II, it showcases Toyota’s dedication to responsible engineering solutions.
