Kith and BMW have reunited for the third installment of their collaborative partnership, merging the realms of automotive heritage and contemporary fashion under the creative direction of Ronnie Fieg. Known for redefining streetwear with his brand Kith, Fieg has brought his vision to life through previous collaborations with BMW, including modern reinterpretations of the classic 1602 and 2002 platforms. For this latest venture, Fieg takes on the legendary 1981 BMW M1 E26, the inaugural model created by BMW M, infusing it with Kith’s distinctive aesthetic and celebrating its iconic status creating a 1 of 1 piece. As a designer celebrated for blending nostalgic elements with a modern twist, Fieg’s contribution underscores the synergy between street culture and luxury automotive design.

The centerpiece of this collaboration is a meticulously restored 1981 BMW M1 E26, transformed with one of BMW’s rarest and most striking colors—Techno Violet. This vibrant hue, synonymous with BMW’s 90s era, envelopes the exterior, while a bespoke Kith M-Series badge graces the rear decklid, adding an exclusive touch. Inside, BMW Individual Black Merino Leather elevates the cabin, featuring a custom Kith monogram pattern that adorns the seats, gear shift, door inserts, and floor mats. Mechanically, the M1 retains its impressive 6-cylinder inline engine, producing 277 horsepower and achieving a top speed of 165 mph—performance benchmarks that made it the fastest German road car of its time. The combination of original engineering prowess and contemporary detailing makes this M1 a celebration of both BMW’s storied past and Fieg’s creative ingenuity.

The 1981 BMW M1 E26 by Ronnie Fieg is a stunning testament to what happens when timeless design meets modern artistry. The decision to spotlight the M1—a model often overshadowed by other classics feels like a deliberate homage to BMW’s deeper catalog, and Techno Violet brings a bold yet nostalgic feel to the platform. It’s no surprise that this ultra-limited masterpiece, releasing on December 6th, seamlessly bridges eras, blending the retro charm of its 90s-inspired aesthetic with a distinctly modern finish. This collaboration is a striking reminder of the power of thoughtful design, breathing new life into an underrated icon while reinforcing the timeless appeal of BMW’s engineering legacy.
