While JDM and Euro dominate the SEMA article headlines, it’s easy to overlook the other interesting and unique car sub-cultures and weird builds, especially when you are not there to explore the show yourself. This article will shine a spotlight on some of the more niche builds that were sprinkled all over the SEMA Show grounds, because every vehicle at SEMA has had blood, sweat, and tears put into them and they all deserve to be admired.
The Brodozers got their time in the spotlight too, with a large group of participants chilling outside the convention halls. Trucks from all the major truck brands like Ford, Chevy, and GMC were showcased here sporting massive lifts, incredibly intricate undercarriages with custom machined parts, and amazing color coordination. They might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it’s plainly obvious how much love and care is put into each truck.
RTR Motorsports held a chance to win a drift experience at the Shell Performance Unbound event outside the halls. Three Mustangs driven by Vaughn Gittin Jr., Ben Hobson, and James Deane showed off their amazing vehicles and drift skills while rattling around one lucky passenger.
Maybe the black sheep of the gearhead world, but nevertheless undeterred, EV‘s had a strong showing at SEMA as well. Over at the SEMA Future Tech Studio, tons of custom vehicles showed us the variety of customization and ways of propulsion that may soon overtake the combustion engine. From tricked out Teslas to old school muscle and euro restomods on EV architecture, just because it doesn’t go vroom-vroom any more doesn’t mean it has to look ugly too.
For the F1 fans, the Honda Racing booth brought out the RB20. Driven by Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez, this beast is powered by a Honda RBPTH002 6-cylinder engine putting out 1,040 HP. Its no wonder this machine has captured 8 wins, 17 podium finishes, and 8 pole positions.
Built to surprise his dad with his dream car, this Challenger is not only special in that Dustin was able to fulfill his dad’s dream of owning a 1970 Dodge Challenger, but also in that the car’s 340 was dropped and replaced with a more modern 6.4 liter 392 HEMI. Paired with an auto transmission for his dad’s cruising pleasure, this beast now packs a serious punch.
