During the hiatus of the Dodge Challenger from 1975 to 2009, automotive enthusiasts eagerly awaited its revival. When the second-generation Challenger finally made its debut in 1978, some may be surprised to learn that it was not entirely an original design. In an effort to expedite its return to the market, Dodge collaborated with Mitsubishi to bring forth a rebadged version of the Mitsubishi Galant Lambda, a platform that had been developed by the Japanese automaker. While the rebadged Challenger borrowed the chassis and some components from the Galant Lambda, Dodge made significant modifications to the design, incorporating iconic Challenger styling cues and infusing it with its own unique personality. Despite the shared foundation, the second-generation managed to capture the essence of its predecessor while also carving out its own place in automotive history.
