BMW unveiled its most powerful rear-wheel-drive M car at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este on the shores of Lake Como: the 2026 BMW M2 CS. This model builds on the already high-performing second-generation standard M2, utilizing the same high-revving inline-six engine—but with power increased to an impressive 523 horsepower. All of that power is sent to the rear wheels via a standard 8-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic.

The transmission, like the engine, hasn’t been left untouched. BMW reduced its weight by 97 pounds through the use of lighter materials, including components made from carbon fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP), and by fitting forged M alloy wheels as standard. The combination of reduced weight and increased power results in a blistering 0–60 mph time of just 3.7 seconds, with a top speed of 188 mph.

Inside, the M2 CS is focused on performance without sacrificing everyday usability. The driver and passenger sit in weight-optimized, heated M Carbon bucket seats with removable head restraints for helmet clearance. The 3-spoke steering wheel, wrapped in Alcantara, is also heated. “CS” and “M2 CS” logos are found throughout the cabin, some of which are illuminated—making sure you never forget what you’re behind the wheel of.

Production begins in August 2025 at BMW Group’s San Luis Potosí plant, with a starting price of $98,600.
