A year ago, a full-sized clay model of the Toyota Gen3 GR Supra Supercar was unveiled at the Repco Bathurst 1000 in Australia, coinciding with the announcement that Toyota Australia would make its maiden entry into the 2026 Supercars Championship. Now, at this year’s Repco Bathurst 1000 launch, the first GR Supra Supercar has been revealed in the flesh.
Six of these V8-powered machines will compete under Walkinshaw Andretti United and Brad Jones Racing. Power comes from Toyota’s proven 2UR-GSE engine, previously used in the Lexus IS F, RC F, and LC 500. To ensure competitiveness, the engine has been further developed by Walkinshaw Andretti United in the U.K. and Craig Hasted in Australia. These Supras will go head-to-head with series mainstays: Chevrolet’s 5.7-liter Camaro and Ford’s 5.4-liter Mustang. Like its rivals, the GR Supra Supercar features a six-speed sequential manual transmission and will also make use of AP Racing brakes, 18-inch Rimstock wheels, and Dunlop slick tires.
The Toyota GR Supra Supercar will make its public debut at Mount Panorama, where it will be on display and perform demonstration laps during the Repco Bathurst 1000 in October. Further testing and development to ensure performance parity will begin soon, leading into the opening round of the Supercars Championship in February 2026. If only Toyota could make this V8-powered, manual transmission-driven dream come true for the masses of Supra fans around the world.
