Mercedes-AMG is marking its 130th anniversary in motorsport with the debut of the AMG GT3 Edition 130Y Motorsport at the 2024 Pebble Beach Automotive Week. Limited to just 13 units, this special edition pays homage to Mercedes-Benz’s racing heritage by blending modern motorsport technology with design elements inspired by legendary race cars from the 1950s.
Under the hood, the AMG GT3 Edition 130Y is powered by a Handcrafted AMG 6.3-liter V8 naturally aspirated engine, delivering an impressive 671 horsepower. This makes it the most powerful GT3 ever built in Affalterbach. The car also features advanced aerodynamics, including a Drag Reduction System (DRS) that helps achieve a top speed of over 196 mph, along with a sequential six-speed racing transmission and a carbon fiber safety cell.
The design of the AMG GT3 Edition 130Y draws from the classic Mercedes-Benz 300 SL W 194, featuring a silver paint finish with blue accents reminiscent of the historic Silver Arrows. Inside, the car combines cutting-edge motorsport technology with traditional elements, including a Bosch DDU 10 cockpit display and interior details inspired by the 1955 Mercedes-Benz SLR 300, such as blue checkered fabric seats and walnut wood handles.
Mercedes-AMG has once again demonstrated its mastery of high-quality craft and performance, a reputation that’s no easy feat to maintain over 130 years. With the AMG GT3 Edition 130Y Motorsport, they’ve celebrated this milestone with flying colors and the unmistakable roar of a naturally aspirated V8. The sleek and minimal livery commemorating the achievement adds a refined touch, while the decision to keep the engine naturally aspirated highlights the brand’s commitment to delivering a meticulously crafted vehicle. Showcasing 130 years of excellence, Mercedes-AMG highlights it’s quality on the perfect Pebble Beach backdrop.
